using GDI function in DirectX environment?

I inserted this code to draw ellipse: ---------------------------------------- Surface LOCK HDC dc; // the dc // get the dc from surface ... Ellipse(dc,x,y, x+width+5, y+ht+5); ... Surface UNLOCK ----------------------------------------- But I am wondering that the function ellipse would cause delay, because the function Ellipse is also used in general Win32 GDI programming. Doesn't it have any problem?
