in openGL can you seperate a image on a screen in 2D so that all seperated parts can be moved independently for a slider type puzzle? i dont know how to really get started, im not looking to make a cube with the image textured around it, just a 2D jpeg broken up into pieces that can be moved around by the user. is it possible or do i need to break the image down beforehand?

Use GL_QUADS. Load the image in as a texture and then apply 1/16th of that texture to each quad. When you move a quad with mouse/keyboard input, you just have to transform the quad that you want moved.

Also, this is a double post. You posted this same question in another forum here. Try to avoid doing that in the future.
