How do you make a game out of Macromedia flash?

Recommended Posts

depends on what type, if its a pong clone just flash and some time to learn its scripting, if you want a more complex game most devolper use various 3rd party tools for the programming

where do you stand now, flash's vector art takes some time to get use to but fun to play with, the scripting system will take a while to get the hang of, works a bit like java syntax

unless you have something specil in mind it be easyest to do all the graphics in flash, though if you already have photoshop maby a nice background.
you can find some good tuorials on their site(pre mx is packaged with the tutorials) as for the scripting there are tutorials but you have to know some basic programing concepts to get any uses from them

So what your saying is that you need to know some concept of "programming" in order to make a game in Macromedia Flash?

Lol, that made me laugh. [No offense meant, DarkBlades.]

Yes, you need programming knowledge. If you don't want to write any code whatsoever, maybe check out this free and pretty cool program. It has a lot of cool features, though I guess you now have to make a "donation" of $15 dollars to get them.

Making a defender type game shouldnt be to hard to program or you could recruit someone if you dont want to learn

those gamemaking programes are overrated, with them anyone can make a game but the skill requred to make a good game dosent really change

Yeah, I guess I see your point. I never personally use them. I code all my games in C++. [smile]

But for those guys out there who aren't committed enough to learn to program (which is quite understandable), they are great, as you can still get a decent game made without touching any code.

If you want to build anything with GameMaker above the level of a Breakout clone, youre going to have to learn to code a little. But I highly recommend going that route anyway. If youre just a hobbyist or game tinkerer, dont spend the years and years learning the ins and outs of a programming language. Use a game creator to test your ideas out. Once youre sure you have a good game on your hands, THEN learn a programming language to fully code your game.
