Hmmmm, I just use libpng. As far as multi-platform I use it on Win32 and Mac OS X without any problems. You can be certain that it works on Linux.

Just to post my expirience with loading/saving a png:
I did not want to use ImageMagick, because it is such a big package, and just for loading/saving a png ... it was an option for me but I first wanted to try alternatives.
So I tried DevIL ... worked pretty well. But sometimes (for loading some images) it just did not work. I had no clue why and I was unable to find out. So I tried libpng.
When I first looked at the documentation, it overwhelmed. Why can't they just give a simple function that loads/saves me my png?
But afterall, it was not that bad, I had to read about 10 screens, do some copy and pastes and it worked very nicely!
My recommandation is: lipng
