Im wondering if anyone knows how to make a c++ program work with mathematica. Like send in an expression/string that mathematica evaluates and sends back the answer. I guess i could try with maxima or matlab also but i prefer mathematica so i would appreciate a little help or a small code example if anyone have done this. Regards.

Matlab at least has/is its own little language which should be able to do what you want. Mathematica too if I remember correctly. One of my projects in college was to program matlab to control a little matrix display hooked up to the PC.

Though there's likely a way to hook the two together if you really want to. Also, depending on what you need, libGMP does big fast math stuff.

I'm not familiar with the details of Mathematica, but I can do this with Maple since it provides two executables. One with the gui interface and another with only a console interface. And its fairly trivial to use the console interface from another application. Perhaps Mathematica has something similiar?
