I have a project in an Evolutionary Computation class, and I am looking to do it in machine learning. The instructor suggested I find a simple strategy game besides tictactoe, connect4, checkers, chess, othello. What other games are out there? I've tried searching and found mancala, pente, and this game called virus. You guys have any good ideas?

You could also look at Doushou Qi (or jungle game).

This is a funny game which can become very tactic (esp if the elephant cannot take the rat).

Good luck.

Abalone, Durak, Rummikub.
Also forgot to mention Stratego or Risk.

I'm taking Evolutionary Computation this fall and I'm totally excited about it. Supposedly we're going to teach a small robot how to learn.

How are you enjoying the class so far? You'll have to let me know how it goes.

Good luck with your project!
Without order nothing can exist - without chaos nothing can evolve.
How about Ro Sham Bo? It presents both an extremely simple game and a good environment for machine learning to take place (well, when you're not playing against a random opponent anyways).

It is a fun class, not as hard as I originally thought it would be. The concepts learned are pretty straight forward. I actually enjoy the class.
