I need to work on a game with a few ppl, we are far from each other so we are obviously using the Net. Working with the email doesn't fit, ICQ it's good to comunicate but it's not enough: can someone point me freeware tools, possibly visual, to share and coordinate the source and the project?

For source control, you might consider getting a sourceforge project started. It keeps source code organized and versioned for open-source projects and comes with lots of free tools and webspace.

Other than that, i would say the best communication system is a simple board like PHPBB which is also free and very feature-full. In fact, many web hosts have it as an automatic quick-install feature.

If you want to setup a repository yourself I would recommend Subversion. It is pretty easy to setup on any system, there are GUIs available (TortoiseSVN, RapidSVN) and it also has plugins into several IDEs. CVS is the other common tool (this is what sourceforge uses), and it has many of the same features -- Subversion was designed as a replacement for CVS.

I have found that source control along with some real time communication method (irc, icq ...) does a pretty good job of supporting team development.
