level of progression:: question about a book
I have seem to end a roadblock in the programming. I don't know where to go next. I am pretty good with c++ console programming. Did anyone read the book Beginning c++ Game Programming? In that book there are a few console programs but I'm not sure what they are because I haven't had the chance to pick up the book yet. Could anybody list the names and order that they go in?
If you are pretty good at console stuff, I would suggest the next step to be some windows programming so you get a feel for what that is like (before moving on to a particular API). Check out this site to get a feel for windows programming.
Then I have LaMothe's "Tricks of the Windows Programming Guru's" which will go over alot of the more basic gaming concepts (but not to much on an API and when it talks of DirectX it is a much older version-still using Direct Draw).
Then maybe an API specific book (or on-line source, there are many) that will go over the basics of an API (i.e. DirectX, OpenGL, SDL) and learn about one of them.
Also check the books section on this site and what they reccomend.
But that's just my oponion.
