Is there a Input Stream associated with a text area. If running at the command line the standard input is in the one from System.in (IIRC). But if I were to make a text area for a gui, what would the input stream be for that? Its seems like it would be nothing but a fancy key listenner impersonating a console. I'm not sure. Can someone point me in the right direction? L-

if you mean for arguments, i'd probably turn args[0] into a static String, and append the string to your textarea.

for file i/o, use buffers and convert them into strings by using the StringBuffer.toString() method.

gui's aren't too different from consoles except for the fact that they have graphics and accept different forms of data, i.e. strings, characters, etc.
