Presampled Displacement Mapping

jus wondering how does presampled displacement mapping works in d3d? I cant seem to find the bump earth demo any more in the newer sdks... or is this functionality deprecated? thx!

If I remember correctly, the "BumpEarth" sample from the older SDK's used the DX6 style fixed-function bump mapping. This has been superceded by pixel shaders.

Wolfgang Engel did a series of articles on this site about shader progamming, of which the example code gave results fairly similar to the sample you mentioned:
