Could Glaux be my problem?

I've heard that it is not a good idea to use this library and I have a pretty big application that does use it. I am getting what looks like buffer overflow and I can not pin point from my application code where it could be. Would somebody tell me if this library is known to cause buffer overflow? Also, is freeImage a decent library? I'm looking for a decent library that will easily allow me to load bitmap images into 24 bit RGB pixels without having to worry about the pitch or anything.
