i am drawing a map in my engine : - put drawing routine of the cell in a display list - in a for loop i call the previous routing within a specified position in map array of points for i=point0 to point n do glTranslate(point i); call_diaplay_list_routine; i am wondering is this the best choice of map rendering, notice that number of matrix-multiplication caused by glTranslate is n*m : n number of cells in a row m number of cells in a column is vertex array better than display list in this situation ?

This is probably fine, although if you need to draw transparent objects, you may need to sort the display lists by depth first.

You can actually draw a vertex array inside of a display list. So if you want to maximize performance, I would suggest doing that.
