I want to draw on my desktop wallpaper. I found out that I can do it using directdraw...however, this is old and shouldn't be used anymore. Instead, I think I might be able to do it using a activeX and active desktop. Has anyone tried this? Is there any negatives to doing it this way?

In general drawing directly to the desktop is a bad idea. Why do you want to do it?

You're better off creating a window, positioning it over the area you want to draw on, and drawing to that instead.

Yes, using ActiveX + Active Desktop works, I've tried it before. If I recall right, there were some annoying things that happened because the desktop isn't normally being constantly refreshed, but it worked well enough for what I was doing.
