Will the following code compile with vc6sp6?
for (int i=0; i<10; i++)
{
// foo
}
for (int i=0; i<10; i++)
{
// bar
}
ie what is the scope of i?

That hasn't been fixed, because it would break compatibility. There's an easy workaround, though.

Include a header with the following:

#ifdef _MSC_VER
#if(_MSC_VER<=1200)
#define for if (false) {} else for
#endif
#endif

Can Service Pack 6 be applied to Visual C++ 6.0 STANDARD EDITION? When browsing the Microsoft websites, I only find information about Professional and Enterprise Editions. Which is the latest Service Pack appliable to the Standard Edition?

I Don't know... If they don"t say it, then it might be dangerous to try, but on the other hand you won't know whether it works ot not if you don't try.

If you manage to install any other VS SP on your standard version, then I guess that this one will work too.

Anyway, I suggest you to move to a more recent compiler (such as vs.net 2003). You can get the command line tools freely from MS, and you can configure code::blocks to use it. If you still want to use MS IDE, you can buy the standard edition for approximately 100$.
