Any plane tutorials explaining how to use them etc?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm starting to use planes alot in my calculations, eg collisions etc. So basically I want a tutorial that explains how to do 2d calculations on a 3d surface, that is treating the 3d surface(eg a triangle) as a plane. Thanks

Can you be more specific? What sort of calculations are you wanting to do?

Like finding the point where a line is hitting the triangle(plane). eg collision detection.

To see if the point is inside of the triangle plane or not.

Topics to google/search the archives/check the faq/look in the articles section for:

"ray plane intersection"
"ray triangle intersection"
"ray polygon intersection"
"point in polygon"
"point in triangle"
"pluecker (or plucker) coordinates"
"barycentric coordinates"
"tomas moller"

References:

geometrictools.com intersection code.
This book, p. 293.

And so on. Just remember that not all ray-tri tests are created equal; each has its own strengths and weaknesses (sometimes mostly weaknesses...).
