OpenGL 2D terrain generation

Hello all, I am currently working on one of those 2D tank games in OpenGL. You know the ones, where you pick your angle and velocity and try to blow up the other tank before they blow up yours. Anyways, on to the question, I need a few good ideas on how I should go about creating fairly realistic random 2d terrain. I've been sitting around for a while thinking and I just can't seem to come up with anything decent. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
