Does OpenSceneGraph support terrain file paging?

We need to load huge terrain maps based on OpenFlight and Terrapage databases. OpenSceneGraph supports both of these databases. Since our maps are huge, we need to minimize memory footprint i.e. load only the data that is visible on the screen. Is this achievable by OSG or do we need to use some other APIs like those provided by multigen for this to work? Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks, Fastian

Yes it does. It has a multi-threaded system for handling the paging in and out of Terrapage data sets. There is an example of the Nelis aiforce base dataset on the web site.

VEGA Multigen-Paradigm's flagship vis-sim software would also fit the bill, but it is extremely pricy. The trick is how to get your data into Terrapage format. The only way I am aware of (please correct me if I am wrong) is to use Terrex. Terrex as a base product price is $10K. If anyone knows of any free software or cheap for getting data into the Terrapage format, please let me know.

Good luck

J
