Question on Display Lists

If I declare a Display list inside a class definition (so it ends up being created multiple times), does that defeat the purpose of a display list? If so, should I just create it once and give the draw functions the handle to use the list.

if the DL is the same yes only create it once just use a handle instead ie
struct House
{
int displayListID;
};
