Assembly Question
I was wondering what the difference is between HLA and real assembly? If I want to build things like OSes, should I even learn HLA? I also want to be able to use a debugger but since its all in assembly would learning HLA be able to teach someone how to use that?
If anyone has a recommendation on a good book or assembly tutorial, let me know.
HLA is High level assembly, which means that it is somewhat easier because you are not required to code as much to do something. I prefer real assembly, simply because you can code everything out. The Art of Assembly teaches you with HLA, and I think it is free on the net. For real assembly, I'd go with Assembly Language Step by Step. As for operating systems, I believe real Assembly would be more beneficial to you. I can't tell you that for sure, though, so maybe someone else can answer that.
