Apart from including glext.h, do I need to link something to use extensions? I ran this
printf("%s",glGetString(GL_EXTENSIONS));
and it gave me "(null)"

I guess glGetString encountered an error - use glGetError to find out what it was. Remember that you need an OpenGL context to call glGetString (i.e. open and initialize the window first, then call glGetString.)
