is there a good way to texture a large level with height details like e.g. a street throu a landscape with rocks and kliffs and grass ?? something like it is in world of warcraft ;))) the point is that one texture should be something like 1024 pix and the terrain is like e.g. 1000meters*1000meters is there a program to cut textures and terrain into small cells which i can also use for the LOD ??

i think you have to use the street as a single object.
i would map a pattern about 100 times (the grass) and use a second texture layer for the height details (you mean white parts on mountains right?)

i have the same problem.

hi there,

go for the tiled approach!

hmm...i found this, which will probably fits best for a home-grown-mini-project.
He describes the technique pretty good, you should be able to implemented something like this by yourself.

go here

btw...WoW is...well..crap. besides the awful chars and gameplay, terrain looks really bad there. ;)
