use of undefined type 'std::basic_ios_Elem,_Traits'

Hi Finally i got my Mayaexporter to work but i can't even compile my importer... it's the first time i import a file and i don't know what's wrong with the decleration: std::ifstream file; the compiler says "c:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\gregor\Eigene Dateien\nGin\ngMesh.cpp(21): error C2079: 'file' uses undefined class 'std::basic_ifstream<_Elem,_Traits>' with [ _Elem=char, _Traits=std::char_traits<char> ] " in the c++ book i have everything is the same except that they have a "using namespace std;" and just use ifstream file; regards, m4gnus
