Vampire The Masquerade?
After playing through much of Vampire The Masquerade: Blood Lines I have to say, I am quite interested in playing the pen n' paper version of this wonderful game. A lot of my friends (even though they are actually not your typical geek [although I am]) play D&D every Friday, so I thought this would be a nice switch of pace.
Is anybody here experienced with the game? What are your opinions on it?
Also, if anybody has any particularily cool or funny stories to tell of their RP'ing days, then please share! [smile]
Thanks in advance. [smile]
My experience with it is rather biased because none of us had ever had any experience with the system before and misinterpreted a number of the rules. The only thing I remember is getting 2 max rolls on a called shot with a katana to another vampires neck and he was barely wounded. That was sort of annoying. Maybe someone who has played with a story teller who knows what they are doing will have a more constructive opinion on the system.
heh, thats a tad harsh [grin]
I played VTM back at Uni (so a few years ago now) it was a laff because we had the most useless group of Vampires ever and we tended to screw up a bit [grin]
Get a story teller who knows the rules and what they are doing and you'll be set, if they are any good they shouldnt have todo much anyways, in our case we drove the story along (and often made it more complex for ourselfs).
The one of the best moments I think we had was when we blew up a town... basically, a local sabat vampire had made this huge flesh golem and it wandered around killing people, once we managed to dispatch it.. or drive it off, i forget which, we were left with a large town full of bodies, so one of our number says "dont worry about it, I'll take care of it, you guys go steal a car" (we were warewolf hunting after a previous screw up), so we find one in working order, drive out to the edge of town and wait.
The other guy, unknown to use, puts all the bodies in one place and covers it with petrol, runs a some a short distance away, lights it and steps back.... the petrol catches and promptly ignites the gas main which was leaking near by causing a massive fireball.
Mean while, me and the other vampire were waiting in this car and see what might as well be a 2nd sunrise in the mirror, we dont even bother with the fear test coz we werent going to pass it and we both exit the care via the engine block and run for a few miles.
Teh best moment however was our 2nd story, which had all 4 of us in.
We are looking for a bunch of sabat members and during the run up to it one of our group stops another from feeding, this pisses 'im off slightly but he doesnt do much.
Anyways, we find out they have a house so we go and investigate it, as we are moving through the hall way the guy who was stopped feeding exits the house via hte front door infront of us and just suddenly loses it, spins around and there is blood lust in his eyes. Before we could shut the door he looks right at the guy who stopped 'im feeding, the door gets shut and he pegs it up the stairs of this house. The guy outside breaks the door down and me and the guy playing the 4th vampire both, at the same time in real life, point up and say "he went that way", totally unscripted, heh
There then follows a chase through the house which ends with the vampire who ran getting pounded to dust [grin]

I have a funny PaperRPG story.
Back in high school I got a really hot friend of mine, Jennifer, to play Star Wars the RPG with us on a fairly regular basis. We dated for a little while after that too.
*Sigh* the memories...
Wait, that wasn't funny...
Oh, and one time, we were playing this Bounty Hunters adventure that had an IG88 hunting us. The thing self destructed in Mos Eisley after we beat him up pretty good. When he blew, our GM rolled 7 dice and declared "Mos Eisley suffers 7D damage".
I thought it was funny... but I am a major geek.

Well, I certainly appreciate all of your feedback.
Apparently the DM for my group of friends (also a friend of mine) is quite good. I played a game with them once, it was pretty fun.

Heh, in d+d we used to roll for penis size; however that wasn't good enough so we rolled for girth and length too. One guy rolled a long one, but it was really thin; we joked he should get an extra attack for it, 'schwing!'
Come on; I now you other guys did it too!

No.
The problem with all PaperRPGs; the quality of the participants greatly affects the quality of the game. Even the worse PaperRPG system is great with people who understand PaperRPGs.
The problem with Vampires, is that it's a living game. Every few months they update the story, where they nerf and buff different characters based on the progress of the story. You end up either picking a time and playing with whatever current 'balance' or you end up paying the white wolf 'tax' and possibly have something unexpected happen within your story.
And remember, Werewolf, Vampires and Mage are all compatible, although you only need all three books if you're mixing PCs, which shouldn't happen because they all dislike each other.

We decided to ban the practice after one of the characters became suicidal...
As for VTM, I haven't played it much but I used to play Werewolf: The Apocalypse a lot a few years ago. It uses the same basic system, but obviously VTM specific things like Clans, Bloodpoints and powers has been swapped with WW things like Tribes, Auspices (more or less class), Rage-points and gifts.
My pack is/was also very destructive. Among other things, St. Peterburg got carpet bombed with fuel/air bombs.. I can't remember why, but I suspect the collateral damage was kinda over the top.
Oh, and Manhattan is now owned by Norway, after some pack members decided it would be fun to "convince" Bill Gates to turn over a small fortune, and "persuade" the US government to sell it to them. They then turned it over to Norway as a patriotic gesture. Kinda to my character's annoyance, as he used to live there..
As with all PnP RPGs, it's important to have a DM that knows the rules and how to tweak them. There are flaws in all systems, and the most important thing is that the story is good, not necessarily that the rules are followed to a tee.

Ah, my friends are going to get a kick out of this one.
Thanks to everyone for the replies! VTM, D&D and even this aforementioned Werewolf game look like great fun. Perhaps I should participate in some games.
