Visual C++ command-line compiler
Ok, I'm trying to compile an OpenGL maze game using the Visual C++ command-line compiler that you can get for free. I got the following error:
Cannot open include file: "windows.h"
What's up with that? I checked the include directory, and, indeed, there is no windows.h. Does the free Visual C++ compiler not support developing GUI apps? This is my first time really using it.

You will have to download the Windows Platform SDK (266MB) and the you can use the command line arguments to set the paths so it knows where to look. I think -I to include the include directory and the -L to link in the libararies. This is the case with the command line compiler as well as the Visual C++ 2005 Express Beta IDE as well.
Thanks for the tip. Any idea why the file is so large? Dev-c++ seems to have the same functionality roughly in about 8 megs. This is 266 megs, a.k.a. dial-up torture.

There is a ton of stuff in the Platform SDK. It's not just the Windows API, but about every other API you can think of.
You can also use the web install, instead of downloading the intire file, this will allow you to selectively install parts of the platform sdk.
