Does anyone knows how to enable the directx debug informations ? I managed to enable some of it with #define D3D_DEBUG_INFO... But what I really want is the render target and texture states that are supposely available through the directx debug menu from vs2003... I set my device in ref and the debug information is on from the directx controlpannel.. but the texture and render states are always <Unavailable>... Please help my boss is expecting this to work at the end of this (really long) day....

hi,

as far as i know, they are available only when debugging shaders.
look at this:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/directx9_c/directx/graphics/Tools/ShaderDebugger.asp

you can use D3DSpy (it's in the SDK), you can use either 1 or 2 computers, step by frames, and look at randerstates

or you can use my tool, dxDump, you just include it, give a logger function to it, and you can dump many more than just render states at any point of your code:

The most recent version of PIX has surface capture (you need XP for it). There's also NVPerfHUD, which kicks PIX's arse, if you've got an NVidia card.
