rotation matrices

Are rotation matrices commutative? It would seem to me that they must be, although I don't think matrix multiplication in general is. Mike C. http://www.coolgroups.com/zoomer/

No they are not. If you rotate a point 90 degrees around the x axis, then 90 degrees around the y axis, it will not be in the same place as if you had rotated it around the y axis first.
Try multiplying the matrices for these rotations and you will see that the results are not the same.
