Textures : Advantages of GL_BGRA over GL_RGBA?

What are the advantages of using the GL_BGR(A) texture format over GL_RGB(A)? I have read somewhere (in an nVidia demo source code) that BGR was speedier than RGB in nVidia cards, but why?

search the opengl.org advanced forum from a few months ago this was discussed
BGRA IIRC is native to windows
