Well so far, none has mentioned the advantages with DirectDrawSurface (DDS) over the rest of the mentioned formats. DDS can be decompressed by the grahpics hardware and is therefore to be loaded compressed (resulting in much faster load-times).
Furthermore the images are compressed quite good, so they doesn't take up much space ;-)
