Hello all, We're about 70% finished an online multiplayer pay-per-play track & field game. You can give it a spin at www.trackchamp.com. Not entirely stable, needs a month or so of work, but hopefully developed to a state that people get a sense of what it's about (animation to follow as well). 400m dash works at the moment online (hopefully). Would be great for those with a spare minute and interest to give it a spin and totally trash it, critique, etc. ANY feedback much appreciated! Thanks.

also...help screens to come online this week...

In the meantime, if you want to try for free, after registering, the best bet is to select the 400m event, then select the Matched Event, "Warm-Up 400m Dash".

This will move you to a free race and to the java track.

Here, simply press the "check-in" button (lower right) to start the race commands.

When the starter gun fires/message "Go!!" appears, click the "START" button (lower right) and then alternate the speed of the runner by increasng/decreasing per the controls using the mouse.

Faster meter/second pace will deplete energy faster, and if you run too fast, you'll run out of energy before the race is over.

The object is to strike the right balance of speed and energy conservation.

Hopefully that helps for testing purposes!

hi,

nope, you can play for free, using the Warm-Up option.

Concept is a pay-per-play, in that you pay to enter a race against other users head to head, and if you win, you get a cash prize more than your entry fee......so, it's more for those out there who like "competitive entertainment"... surely wouldnt be fun to just pay to play this thing in and of itself..

we're implementing teams, buddies, challenges, etc in the coming month...

thanks.

After a bit of screwing around, here are some flaws that I found:

  • Just about all, if not all, characters are allowed in the username field. For example, I was able to create the user <img src=http://tinyurl.com/79o2a>, which resulted in a.. er.. muffin seen in place of my username. You need to either filter out non-alphanumeric characters or turn them into their respective HTML entities. Not too big of a problem.

  • Concurrent spaces in usernames are allowed. This allows for malicious users to impersonate others quite easily. For example, I created the users Toxic Hippo and Toxic  Hippo just fine (note the second space). You seem to be cutting spaces at the beginning and end of a username, which's good.

  • No kind of verification by email or authentication image for registration. If I were you, I'd make one or the other ASAP. Without one of these, a person could easily automate the account creation process. I don't know what purpose this would serve, though.

  • That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I'll try to remember to check back later and see how it looks. Good luck, sirrah.
