unreal engine 3.0...

I believe it currently runs with DirectX 9 or OpenGL, however DirectX is perfered by Epic. But Epic has a a wrapper system, where they can wrap any library in a dll, then use that with the same engine.

The engine has an abstracted rendering interface so you could build an actual renderer out of any API, whether it be Direct3D, OpenGL, Software Raster, etc.

I wouldn't really call it a wrapper system because that terminology isn't really fitting in this case. They are actual seperate renderers that are pluggable to the engine not API wrappers.
