Would this be worth the money (about compilers)?

I know nothing about C++ yet, but I bought several books on the topic. I just started reading one and it assumes I have a compiler, so i'm searching for a compiler to use. I have found a compiler at microsoft's web site, "Visual C++ .NET 2003 Standard". Estimated Price* $109 US. Would this be worth the money rather than finding a free one to start with? (btw: if you know of any good free ones please tell me the name and where to get them). Also the "show preview" automatically takes out the plusplus symblos next to C, not sure why..

I would advice you to download Visual C++ 2005 express beta 2 instead. Even though it's beta I haven't encountered any bugs.

You can download i it here
