GeForce 2 doesn''t fully support D3D 8 pixel shaders. Some functionality is missing.
Either you support the entire D3D 8 pixel shader architecture, or you don''t expose anything at all. This is a good thing, if you have half a dozen chipsets, which support pixel shaders but not the exact same functionality, it''d be a whole mess with all sorts of workarounds, subtle incompatibilities.
Geforce 2 GTS and pixel sahders?
I got the following info from the advanced section of the forum at opengl.org site. It''s from an NVidia folk a.k.a. mcraighead posted 11/20/2000.
quote:
Actually, OpenGL provides all the features D3D does and more, and this will continue for the forseeable future.
Most of the "new features" in DX8 are still not supported by any hardware yet. Many of those that are already have OpenGL extensions shipping. For example, pixel shaders are really a subset of NV_register_combiners.
When our full DX8 hardware is released, we will have _all_ of the new features, including several not exposed in D3D, exposed in OpenGL.

Call me ignorant if you like, but what exactly _are_ pixel shaders/register combiners?
