double buffer?

hi there... i'm new in game programming. hehe.. i want to create some simple game using GDI(with VC++ 6.0), but it turn to be so slow... i used double buffer concept using bitmap and bitblt. but i think it's still slow... :(( is there any better solution ? hehe... thanks any way... :)
