ground in games

Hello! How in strategy games(for example c&c generals) ground is drawn: as one mesh with many textures or as many segments for each texture? Thanx!

it is most likely drawn as a heightmap (as you might now), and there are many ways of doing this, there are several articles (gamedev) on how to blend edges etc to make it look better.

Briefly, one way of doing it drawing each segment of every texture first (solid), then you draw all the blended/bleeding areas using alpha. Check the tutorials, really great.
