Spot the GDNet Advert Easter Eggs
I understand initial reactions, but give it a week or so. I think it's pretty obvious that it is an ad - we have NO green links for our regular links (all our links are yellow or purple for visited), a javascript popup comes up onmouseover, the link is double underlined, and the ad is at least relevant to programming and/or game development. Despite being included in the text, I think all of those points make it pretty obvious.
As for those with Firefox.. the ads are a pretty standard dynamic web implementation, and we are not the only major site with this sort of thing. Perhaps Firefox needs some optimizations? I don't use Firefox so I don't know, but I never have any issues with IE.
Anyway, we expect some people to dislike the ads, but we need to give this a try.

I don't particularly like them, but having said that they aren't particularly obtrusive, and are easy enough to distinguish from normal links, so I'm happy for GDNet to continue using them as long as they don't end up all over the place.
I dislike the green linky ads. To me they are extremely annoying, I have to navigate my mouse to avoid moving it over a link. Everytime I hit a link there is like a delay before i can do anything again. So if i'm scrolling and the pointer hits a link then the scrolling stops for a second, while the info is loaded.
I've seen them used on some hardware sites i visit (toms, anand, etc) and i end up moving my cursor to the side of the screen on all the pages just to avoid moving it over a link :(
Hopefully they wont be as bad here

I know that I'm new to the boards, but I don't really see a problem with them. The only thing I really noticed was that it took 2 seconds longer to completey load the page then normally. I say, "go ahead and try it out". What's the harm? Where are part of a world of experimentation aren't we? = ]
Now I saw them in the posts history of the user profiles.. that was scary :(
And I still can't disable them, neither through Firefox nor IE.. still get that blank page on Firefox or "page not found" on IE.

I think it's more annoying than the banners (which aren't that terrible) because it breaks your concentration on reading what you are trying to read.
Although I guess it's not as annoying as the green slime. =P
Yay, Radeon slime! *dances*
These wouldn't be that bad if they didn't lag to display the lil popup tooltip and it would be nice if it disappeared faster. I don't mind them as long as they keep gamedev.net running. And perferally are not with-in the threads/replys like some sites...
