I'm learning allegro, and now I'd like to give myself a test of my skills. I've made some space shooters and a few side-scrollers, and I would like to do something for fun. Can Allegro be used to make a classic game, like Hexen or Heretic, or should I use something like DarkBASIC to re-make them? Or should I simply leave them alone and try something easier? I only wanna do it for fun, but if I'm not gonna get anywhere, I won't try.

Boy you know you're old when someone else refers to the "classics" as Hexen or Heretic, instead of space invaders and defender..LOL

Since you're already made a few projects (Well done btw.), what do you mean by "doing something for fun"??

Is this a project you want to consider selling one day?

You can use Allegro with OpenGL (via AllegroGL) to make a FPS. Whether or not you can implement a full-featured one is entirely up to you. I don't think Allegro is what will prevent you to succeed.
