Database coding ... what's best for beginner

Recommended Posts

This is a bit off topic for this web site, but I respect you opinions here. I have been avoiding databases programming for as long as I can remember, but recently I have been thinking of projects where databases would be more practical. I have used C++ Builder for some experimental database coding, but i am not happy with the lack of documentation there is for builder. I would prefer using VC++ (non-MFC if possible). But I have no idea where to start or if VC++ supports databases. I tried google but there wasn't anything good/easy. I am not looking for anything fancy, a MS Access database would be perfect. Could anyone point me in the right direction. if VC++ doesn't support it or there isn't libraries or something, does C# have? Thanks

I assume you're looking to use an existing database, rather than coding your own.

The problem is that unless you go through a generic interface such as ODBC (C-ODBC tutorial), you will find that all the APIs are different. That said, I've heard people say good things about using MySQL from C++, and I've found that SQLite is very easy to pick up and embed, so perhaps they could be your starting points?
