I need to draw line circling text dynamically What would be the best way to accomplish this. I am using vc7 with direct3d thanks, Nick

I don't have much direct experience with this technique, but I believe that you can use GDI to draw a circle on a surface, and then display the surface with Direct3D. You could also use GDI to draw the text, if you needed.

If you want to do it the hard way, there are lots of well-documented algorithms for drawing circles and ellipses. Just google for it, I'm sure you'll find some good resources.

And easier way would be to make a transparent square, draw a white circle in it, and then render that square over the text, stretching and/or coloring as necissary.

so to do that I would get a device context and perform drawing functions correct?

I'm new to direct3d.

just poinmt me in the right direction.

or do I use a sprite?

Probably a sprite overtop of ID3DXFont. I've never used their Sprite interface, but I hear it's good.
