tiled textures look terrible in the distance

Hey, I am trying to make a terrain renderer. I have a texture repeating across the mesh. It looks great close up, but the distant hills look like arse because the texture is tiled more frequently per screen-space area. Whats a good way to fix this? Rob

Use bigger textures and/or use multiple tiles.
Multitexturing will also help.

I was thinking, maybe having some huge texture for teh whole terrain
then blending over that some kind of detail texture. Otherwise blending between huge texture / tiled textures based on distance for the viewer.
