Drawing tiled textures

Recommended Posts

How do you draw textures that if you tile them you can't see the different pieces. I prefer an explanation using Gimp or Pixia. There should be like a button you click and it edits the image so it is tilable and imposible to tell where the point (0, 0) is actually on the image. I think there is such a button because I saw realistic looking texture of hay and its tilable, and in hay there are thousands of lines. I don't know how to explain this well I hope you understand if not I'll try again. Thanks in advance!

There is a filter for the Gimp that can do this. Right click on the image and choose Filters->Map->Make Seamless. I've never been entirely happy with this filter, although I do use it frequently. More often, I do it by hand as I can normally get more satisfactory results that way. I did a writeup about my method for doing it as part of a tile tutorial I did quite some time ago if you want to check it out.
