I''ve programmed for DOS/Windows and Java, but I still sound like the biggest newbie in the world when I ask if it''s possible to write games for the Playstation on a PC or even Mac (I''d buy one if I could do this). I picked up an original PSX on eBay and notice there''s a port on the back, seems a waste to use a CDR every time you build a game, or you could use an emulator....But is there a free or very low cost SDK? I''m sure Sony would sell you one for a ton of cash, but perhaps someone''s used GNU tools or something?? I''ve heard of a NetYaroze which apparently they don''t make anymore, and haven''t found anything on the internet.... qurob@hotmail.com

NetYaroze was shite, it didn''t give you full access to the power of the machine, also you had to boot from CD which loaded about 1MB of cut down librarys (LibGS), you then had to transfer you game by serial link - all in all very slow.

You might be able to get a devkit from Sony, but you''d have to sign your life away to Sony on the license agreement. Oh yer also cost GBP 12,000. Which is a little out of the reach of most home developers.

Just a thought, but do any of the PC emulators for PSX allow loading/debugging from PC harddisk? - I don''t know.

And yes they do use a version of GNU-C provided by SN Systems (www.snsys.com) but I don''t know if its available to Joe Public. But for sure the offical Sony PSX library isn''t generally available.

I guess you mean PSX emulators for the PC.

I only know Bleem and Virtual Game Station and they will only let you play games from original cds. But if you put your game in an ISO image you could use a "cd-emulator" to trick bleem/VGS into running the game.
I think the URLs are:
