Just to save your frustration -- DirectPlay requires a called to CoInitializeEx (NULL, COINIT_MULTITHREADED ) so that COM can work with multiple threads (dplay has a thread that sits on the incoming messages.) In order to get CoInitializeEx included, you must have: _WIN32_DCOM defined somewhere or else VC++ will "optimize the ConInitializeEx declaration out." The best place to define it is under project, setting, c/c++, defines. Hope that helps someone. DmGoober
