Just a quick one here, To get the correct readings from gluunproject should I be doing it in this order, glLoadIdentity(); gluUnProject(); glLookAt(); // <=== Look at after gluUnProject or in this order, glLoadIdentity(); glLookAt(); // <==== Look at before gluUnProject gluUnProject(); I figure that the former order will not take in to account my viewing transforms. Should I be therefore using the latter order..? Thanks.

It doesn't matter. gluUnProject uses whatever transformation matrices you give it, rather than the ones in the pipeline. Just make sure those matrices are correct for your situation.
