I started programming games just a few days ago... right now i'm doing a java based game like the old "1942"... i have only one thread and one loop that loops every 20 miliseconds and re calculate EVERYTHING. Every shot, every enemy, the position of the plane is re calculate every 20 seconds and checks if there isn't other object at this position... This doesn't sound really permormant... does it? it this the right way to develope games like 1942?

Well...Games are programmed with loops that go through as fast as they can--instead of waiting any time (as you have chosen to do), they simply start as soon as they are done. I think you should be fine. If it work, do it [smile].
