I "#include[ed] <iostream.h>" at the top of my file and it failed to build. I can tell you other files of mine compile, though they use <iostream>. Any ideas?

iostream.h != iostream

Chances are you're using MSVC 7.1 or later which removed iostream.h completely. Migrate your code to use iostream instead.

<iostream.h> is deprecated. It's routines are limited to C style string (char) functionality. It's only 'value' is for some legacy code. But for your projects, only use <iostream>.

The standard C++ headers do not have .h extensions. You're probably using a deprecated header if you include <string.h> or <vector.h>.

Additionally, if you wish to include a standard C header, stick a 'c' prefix on it and remove the .h. <stdio.h> is incorrect; <cstdio> is correct.
