Normal Maps

I've been reading up on Normal Maps and it looks like the best thing since sliced bread! Does DX have an easy way to implement this? From what I could tell there is the mesh with a bump map + normal map tga's. How DX uses this, I don't know. I was also wondering how well they mix with pixel shaders. V.

One of the best ways is actually through a bump map shader. All you need to supply is a normal map texture and a bump map texture to the shader and let it do its magic! On the directX side, you will need to provide a mesh with correct normals and bi-normals, etc and a light position. The results are quite impressive if everything works out fine (which invariably it doesn't on the first try ;) ).

That's awesome since I just got shaders working with my game :). I'm also glad that the GPU will be handling it.
