Implementing an auto-update feature into my program is turning out to be much more of a challenge than I originally realized. I would like for users of my program to be able to "Check for Updates", and if there is one, I would like to have the program automatically download it from the net and replace the program. I have already gotten all of the net code written and a place to serve my updates, so that's not an issue. Also, my program is only ONE .exe file. Therefore, the program can't exactly apply the update itself (i.e. the new .exe file), since it can't currently be running and replace itself at the same time. Any body have any good ideas?

Simple way:
Your program downloads the update to a temp directory. It then runs this program with a special "Install yourself" command on the command line, the calling program must then quit.

The freshly downloaded version, having been started in special update mode, waits until it gets write access to where the exe is installed, then copies itself over, starts that new copy then quits.
