Hello, I am looking for info on creating height maps for directX game development and normal mapping texturing. does anyone have any useful resources from the web? Thank you

You haven't been particularly clear on what you are looking for, but i'll try my best. By height mapping I presume you are wanting to render terrain? And by normal mapping its pretty obvious you want it to look the part ;-).

I take my height maps from real terrain data which can be downloaded from various sources. However, there was an interesting article on creating heightmaps using Perlin noise. Do a quick Google for Perlin noise and you should find lots of resources. It's not a bad starting point anyway.

PS. I've got the code somewhere for the Perlin implementation, if you need it. But i'm sure you'd rather figure it out for yourself ;)
