Hey Guys, I'd like to try implementing cube maps in my engine. I've looked at the stuff in the DX docs but I'm not really following it. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good tutorials on the subject, or would be willing to post some of their own code. I would like to stay away from shaders and do it within the fixed function pipeline if posible Thanks guys! Matt Hughson

I haven't really seen any/many resources on doing cube maps either, but I imagine that pretty much anything done within the last year or two is going to use shaders.

The DXSDK actually has a HDRI cubemapping sample that is pretty simple to follow. If you don't want to use HDR, it is very, very easy to take out. I made a sample out of it for the DirectMesh SDK, so that would be good to check out (that one does not use HDRI).

You can easily render to a cubemap using the FFP, since you just set a specific face of the cubemap as the current render target, and then render like normal. However, to use a cubemap in the lighting and shading process of another primitive, you most likely are going to have to use shaders.
