D3D Unsupported for the adapter format passed to CheckDevice

VS.NET, D3D8 When I try to load a texture, Visual Studio throws me a "D3D Unsupported for the adapter format passed to CheckDevice" message into the "Output" window. Program runs fine, but the texture won't show. I think it has something to do with the backbuffer color format and the texture color format. I tried every combination of backbuffer and texture formats, but nothing have helped me yet. Have you ever exeperienced anything like this? And how can I fix it? Thanks in advance.
